All units feature roll-formed baserail
design with forklift slots on all
3 sides and rigging holes for easier
maneuvering. Durable packaging
protects all units during shipment and
storage.
The units can be easily converted
from a vertical to a horizontal dis-
charge configuration by interchanging
the panels supplied with the unit.
All units feature a non-corrosive
sloped condensate drain pan in accor-
dance with ASHRAE (American So-
ciety of Heating, Refrigeration and Air
Conditioning Engineers) Standard
62. Also, the new, sloped condensate
pan permits either an external side
condensate drain (outside the roof
curb) or an internal bottom drain
(inside the roof curb). Both options
require a field-supplied P-trap. Plus,
the new condenser coil grille (available
as a field-installed accessory) pro-
vides a metal plate as an alternate loca-
tion for the field-supplied disconnect,
if desired.
In addition, the units have a stand-
ard filter access door, which per-
mits tool-less filter changes.
Efficient, dependable gas heat
operation
Dimpled heat exchangers optimize
heat transfer for improved efficiency.
The tubular design permits hot gases
to make multiple passes across the
path of the supply air. In addition,
dimpled heat exchanger tubes act as
baffles, forcing the hot gases to stay in
close contact with the cell walls to
maximize heat transfer and efficiency.
The induced draft combustion sys-
tem eliminates the unsightly
appearance of flue stacks, and
diminishes the effects of winds on
heating operation. The inducer fan
draws hot combustion gas through the
heat exchanger at the optimum rate
for the most effective heat trans-
fer. The induced draft also prevents
contaminants from entering the supply
air if a leak in the heat exchanger
occurs.
Dual-stage gas heat on all size units
maximizes efficiency and customizes
comfort.
The direct spark ignition system
saves operating expense when com-
pared to old-style pilot ignition sys-
tems. No crossover tube is required,
therefore no sooting or pilot foul-
ing problems can occur.
Standard units are designed for
natural gas. An LP (liquid propane)
Conversion Kit is available as an
accessory, if required. Installation of
the accessory LP kit simply involves
changing the gas orifices to accommo-
date liquid propane gas.
Simple electrical connections
Terminal boards, located in the base
unit control box, facilitate connections
to room thermostat, outdoor ther-
mostat(s), economizer, and electric
heat. Service panels are quickly
removed, permitting easy servicing.
Thru-the-bottom service connection
capability allows power and control
wiring to be routed through the unit
basepan, minimizing roof penetra-
tions. Both power and control connec-
tions are made on the same side of
the unit to simplify installation. In
addition, color-coded wires permit easy
tracing and diagnostics.
Proven compressor reliability
Design techniques feature computer-
programmed balance between com-
pressor, condenser, and evaporator.
Carrier-specified hermetic compressors
are equipped with compressor over-
current and overtemperature pro-
tection to ensure dependability.
Carrier’s exclusive Acutrol™ meter-
ing device precisely controls refrig-
erant flow, preventing slugging and
flood-back, while maintaining optimum
unit performance.
Durable, dependable
construction
Designed for durability in any climate,
the weather-resistant cabinets are
manufactured using prepainted steel.
The cabinet is constructed of galva-
nized steel and bonderized, and all
exterior panels are coated with a pre-
painted baked enamel finish. The
paint finish is non-chalking, and is ca-
pable of withstanding Federal (U.S.A.)
Test Method Standard No. 141
(Method 6061) 500-hour salt spray
test. All internal cabinet panels are
primed, permitting longer life and
a more attractive appearance for the
entire unit. In addition, the units
are designed with a single, continuous
top piece to eliminate any possible
leaks. Totally-enclosed condenser-fan
motors and permanently-lubricated
bearings provide additional unit
dependability.
Integrated economizers and
outdoor air
During a first stage call for cooling, if
the outdoor-air temperature is be-
low the control set point, the leaving-
air sensor modulates the economizer
outdoor-air damper open to achieve
the set point. When second-stage
cooling is called for, the compressor is
energized in addition to the econo-
mizer. If the outdoor-air temperature
is above the set point, the first stage
of compression is activated and the
economizer stays at minimum vent
position. Economizer operation is
controlled by Accusensor™ I dry-bulb
thermostat that senses outdoor-air
temperature. Accessory upgrade kits
include solid-state enthalpy control
and differential enthalpy sensor.
